This study adopted an interval-valued spherical fuzzy-based strategic approach to assess the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) related to the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in gender equality under Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5). First, 13 SWOT factors were identified based on a literature review. Then, data were collected from four domain experts, and interval-valued spherical fuzzy stepwise weight assessment ratio analysis (IVSF-SWARA) was applied to determine the weights of the SWOT factors. The findings reveal that AI reduces gender bias in recruitment (S2) and AI detects harassment and supports legal protection (O2) serve as key enablers of gender equality. In contrast, biased AI reinforces gender inequalities (W3) and patriarchal norms hinder women's empowerment (T1) constitute major barriers to achieving this goal. The study makes a meaningful contribution to the decision sciences and management literature by offering practical insights for policymakers seeking to achieve gender equality and concludes by outlining clear avenues for future research.
